And no doubt you’ve heard all about the legacy of the games? Well you’ll have yours in the form of a fantastic sofa bed!

And even if there were a standard size of sofa bed there isn’t a standard size of bedding! Take Ikea bedding for example, it’s made for their beds which aren’t quite the same size as beds made for say John Lewis. And so it goes on….

We recommend flat sheets for our high quality sofa beds.

Clearly the size of the bedding required will depend on the size of the mattress you have on your sofa bed. And given that we offer all 5 Sofa beds in our range (Cambio, Metro, Classic, London and Retro) in 5  sizes there are a lot of different sized mattresses too.

Something else to consider is that the size of the bottom sheet you will need will also depend on the quality of the mattress. Many sofabeds are supplied with thin pieces of foam that can be bent or contorted into just about any sheet. Ours are not like that though. They are all proper, thick mattresses. They may not be as compliant when it comes to squeezing into sheets, but they will give you a decent bed to sleep on. In fact giving you a comfortable bed (and sofa) was our top priority when we began designing our sofabeds. Hence there’s a choice of mattress decent, thick mattresses including pocket sprung and memory foam. For more details click on the Mattress tabs of the individual sofa bed pages.

Having said all of that there are – broadly speaking – sofabeds which fit in with the standard bed sizing. For example, chair bed is a single and medium 3 seater is a double and large 4 seater a king. For more info have a look at the individual sofa bed pages for precise size information.

In fact though we would always recommend you use flat rather than fitted sheets for your sofa bed, whatever its size. This is because flat sheets allow the mattress the freedom to move with you to correctly support you. Fitted sheets are the equivalent of a mattress straight jacket. Makes life easier too doesn’t it as one size really can fit all.

Our sofa beds are all high quality and made to order by us (at our workshops just outside Nottingham) so we know them literally inside and outside – which really helps when it comes to Delivery and Installation.

We want you to not only have the sofa bed you want but the Delivery option that suits you best too. That’s why we give you a choice. There’s Standard Weekday Delivery, Guaranteed Weekend Delivery or our Jump-The-Queue option for those in a hurry. Normal delivery times are between 6 and 8 weeks, but by using the express option (or choosing from our list of Sofa Beds in Stock) yours can be made and delivered roughly twice as fast.

Once you’ve ordered your sofa bed from us we’ll set about making it in your chosen style, size and Fabric and then, around two weeks before delivery day, we’ll be in touch to arrange a convenient time. We know your days are precious so give you a two hour delivery window and then call when we’re 20 minutes away.

When the moment has arrived and we’re with you with your sofa bed we will quickly and without undue fuss bring it in and put it together for you. We’ll even take away the packaging too so all your left with is a beautiful sofa bed to enjoy. Enjoy!

A quality sofa bed can make any room the spare room.

Many people use the spare room as their home office, which can pose a problem about where the guests should stay. You don’t want a bed out all of the time as it would take up too much space, but you do want somewhere decent for your friends and family to sleep when they visiting.

Our Retro Sofa Bed comes with a quality 12cm Pocket Sprung mattress. This is an exceptional mattress of a quality rarely offered on sofa beds. It has individually pocketed springs to give you great support and comfort. And of course it folds away perfectly with the sofa bed. All our sofa bed mattresses are luxurious 2m (6’6) long.

Our dark leather sofa beds are particularly popular with men.

Men tend to want practical furniture that’s well designed and well made. They’re not particularly into shopping so don’t enjoy buying the trimmings but they recognise the need for furniture that is functional and looks good.

The phrase transported me straight back to my childhood. Although they weren’t particularly common, the 70s and 80s were indeed the era of the bed settee.

Our beautiful Retro sofa beds look fantastic in black leather.

But what is or was a bed settee? A sofa bed! But when did the settee become a sofa? This wasn’t something that had crossed my mind before but certainly we used to sit on the settee in the lounge in my childhoold home and now it’s more likely to be the sofa in the sitting room.

Funnily enough sofa/settee question came along only a few weeks after we launched our Retro sofa bed. (Perhaps we should have called it the Retro bed settee?). It has looks inspired by the 60s, but all the quality and comfort the latest in design and technology has to offer.

In fact the Retro is just one in our range of high quality bed settees (sofa beds!). Classic, London, Cambio and Metro all boast the same fantastic mechanisms and are available with a choice of comfortable mattresses (Retro has a 12cm thick pocket sprung mattress).

Bed settees of the past weren’t comfortable. They most certainly weren’t something you’d want to sleep on every night or sit on every day. But bad backs and bad sleep are, for us at least that – like the name – a thing of the past. Ours have been built with a focus on comfort and a mechanism that makes the sofa beds so easy to open and close they’re ideal for everyday use.

And as for the purpose of the call about the bed settee? The answer was yes we do have a number of bed settees in stock and ready for almost immediate delivery. Even if we do call them sofabeds!

Perhaps that’s the reason my favourite of the Retro sofa beds the Sofa Bed Company has made so far was indeed in black leather. We only launched our new Retro model relatively recently, so it’s fair to say we haven’t made that many as yet but black leather just seems to suit it.

Retro (in all the colours of leather and fabric in our range – see the Fabrics page for all the details) is a fantastic sofa bed in so many ways. It has all the style of the past yet none of the disadvantages. It’s comfortable, easy to use and available in a five sizes from Chair Bed right up to Extra Large (see the Sizes and Prices tab on the Retro page).

A comfortable sofa bed isn’t to be under estimated. When we say comfortable we really mean it too. All of the sofa beds in our range have been carefully designed and made to ensure they feel great as a bed and as a sofa. Retro has a high quality 12cm thick mattress which sits on wooden slats to ensure a good night’s sleep. The high quality mechanism also ensures it’s easy to open and close time and time again.

Retro is a relatively low sofa that’s been designed to be used everyday as your main sofa. Its seat is low and deep with a back that’s been carefully angled to feel great.

And as for the black leather we love, it’s always of the highest quality. It’s also completely genuine leather (beware imitation leather or bonded leather or leather effect fabric – it seems acceptable to pass them off as the real thing these days) and from British hides too. Now, what we’d really like to do is make a black leather Retro with contrasting buttons. Go on, be the customer that allows us to live our dreams…!

That’s why we’ve developed an ingenious system to give you a sofa bed with wheels. Better than that though, the wheels are only there when you want them to be – the rest of the time they’re raised within the mechanism of the sofa bed.

How does it work? A lever tucked away at the side of the seat activates a mechanism that lowers the wheels. And then when you’ve finished simply pull it back and your sofa bed is once again firmly planted on the floor.

Think of all the times you’ve needed to move your sofa bed. For cleaning perhaps or even to get it into a better position to open it for guests. With wheels that’s all so much easier.

One of the most important things about our sofa beds on wheels though is that the wheels retract when they’re not in use. That way you won’t have a problem with the sofabed moving when you don’t want it to. After all there’s nothing more annoying than furniture that is constantly knocked out of line.

Our wheels system is available as an extra on all new sofa beds for £195. There’s even a choice of wheels depending on whether your sofa bed will sit on a hard floor or carpet.

Buying a genuine retro sofa bed will guarantee you get the genuine 60s article, but may prove more trouble than it’s worth. There are plenty of shops selling reconditioned furniture for example but there are a few things to consider.

It may be stating the blindingly obvious, but furniture from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s is quite old now. And things have changed a lot. Standards of safety and comfort are very different now. Sofa beds weren’t popular then either so may be in short supply.

The other – and really more practical option – is to buy the very latest sofa bed, but with retro styling. The Sofa Bed Company’s Retro sofa bed is just that. It has the look inspired by the 60s but is comfortable and practical in the way something from that era will never be.

The sixties was a decade of colours.
